5 Steps To Care Curly And Wavy Wigs

Curly and wavy hair is always fashionable, and with a curly wig, you can enjoy this classic look repeatedly. Even though curly wigs need a bit more upkeep, you can keep them in great shape with the right care. In this post, we’ll show you how to care for and wash curly and wavy wigs.

1. Section the hair

The first step in maintaining a curly wig is to separate the hair into sections. For wigs with tight, small ringlets, like the Curl Appeal wig from the Gabor collection, divide the hair into smaller sections. For wigs with larger, looser curls, like the Hudson wig from Rene of Paris, you can separate the hair into larger sections.

2. Spray a Detangling Mist

Next, lightly spray each section with a detangling mist. For synthetic curly wigs, use products specifically designed for synthetic hair. For human hair wigs, use products meant for human hair care.

3. Gently Brush the Hair

To remove tangles, gently brush the curls using a wide-toothed comb. Regular combs and brushes can ruin the curls, making your wig look frizzy and causing shedding.

4. Restore the curls

After detangling your wig, it’s important to restore the curls. Depending on the curl type, divide the hair into sections: smaller sections for tight curls, larger sections for loose curls or waves. Gently twist each curl with your finger, letting it return to its natural pattern. If curls don’t bounce back, try twisting them in the opposite direction.

5. Store the wig carefully

Gently cover the wig with a hair net to maintain the curls and prevent further tangling. Then, lay the wig flat in the original bag or box, or place it in a sealed plastic box to keep it dust-free.
